Share the Joy grows in 2009

Dec. 19 2009

Gordon Trucking and Valley Freightliner’s Blue Heart Committee helped more than 40 families including 131 children in need this holiday season in its annual Share the Joy program.

In its 23 year, volunteers from the Pacific, Medford and Modesto terminals helped struggling families with food, clothing and holiday presents.

In Pacific, Gordon Trucking employee Brian Cowger had the privilege of delivering the supplies to local families in need. Cowger said one of the most highlighting moments of the day was delivering a brand new bike to a young boy never expecting such a gift.

“He kept jumping up and down with a huge grin on his face for quite some time,” said Cowger. “His reaction had us grinning too.”

Suited up as old Saint Nick, Medford’s shop manager Kevin Skinner brought presents to local children in the Eagle Point Community with the assistance of his two elves, fellow Medford employees Lan Nall and Mike Jackson

Julie Ganoe, a driver manager from the Modesto terminal said the families receiving these gifts needed them more than one could imagine.

“It’s hard to articulate the gratifying feeling we got when delivering the gifts,” she said. “The parents were so grateful that they had tears in their eyes. This was truly a special event to be a part of. “

Funding for the Share the Joy event was provided by employees of both companies and then generously matched by the Gordon Family. In all, more than $10,000 was raised.
