GTI Wins Washington Green Award
Seattle Business Magazine awarded Gordon Trucking Inc with the 2009 Washington Green Award under the services category. The announcement was made public in the magazine’s October article titled “The best practices and practitioners of environmentally-friendly business.”
GTI was selected for the honor because of its commitment to reducing emissions while increasing fuel efficiency throughout the trucking fleet of more than 1,500 power units.
In 2008, GTI began installing filtration technology in its trucks that has reduced oil waste by 27,000 gallons annually. In the same plan, GTI decreased the maximum speed of its trucks from 65 mph to 60 mph, saving more than 1 million gallons of fuel per year.
In the article, Seattle Business said the actions taken by GTI and other Green Award recipients have made substantial contributions toward environmental sustainability and help reduce the carbon footprint of Washington state.
Kirk Altrichter, Vice President of Maintenance accepted the award on behalf of GTI.
“GTI is honored to be recognized for its efforts in reducing emissions,” said Altrichter. “We strive to be a good environmental steward and consider the impact on the environment when making purchasing decisions.”
In all, GTI’s emissions reductions efforts have led to the elimination of 150,000 tons of carbon dioxide, 1,500 tons of particulate matter and 560 tons of nitrous oxides in our skies each year.
Gordon Trucking is proud to be recognized for its commitment and dedication to operating under the best environmental practices.
